ReelTok

Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 29, 2026  ·  Last updated: March 29, 2026

ReelTok ("we," "our," or "us") operates the ReelTok Chrome extension and the website reeltok.io (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use the Service, and explains your rights and choices.

Short version: We collect only what we need to run the Service — your account info, the comments you post, and the streaming title you're currently watching (to load the right discussion thread). We never sell your name, email, or any information that identifies you. We may license anonymized, aggregate datasets (e.g., which scenes generate the most reactions) to third parties such as studios or researchers. You can opt out at any time.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect:

Content you create. We store:

Viewing context. When you open the ReelTok sidebar on a supported streaming platform, the extension reads the title, season, and episode information visible on your screen (e.g., the show name displayed by Netflix or Disney+). This is used solely to load the correct discussion thread. We do not monitor your playback history, watch time, account status on those platforms, or any other streaming platform activity.

Usage and technical data. We may collect:

We do not collect precise geolocation, payment information, or biometric data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We do not use your information to serve advertisements, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

3. Movie & TV Metadata

ReelTok uses third-party APIs to retrieve public movie and television metadata (titles, posters, descriptions, cast, genres). This data is used solely to label discussion threads and is not linked to your identity.

ReelTok does not host, stream, or distribute copyrighted video content.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your name, email address, or any information that directly identifies you to third parties.

5. Aggregate Data and Commercial Licensing

In addition to operating the Service, we may derive and license anonymized, aggregate datasets to third parties — for example, studios, content distributors, streaming platforms, and researchers. These datasets may include:

Before any dataset is licensed, it is processed to remove all directly and indirectly identifying information. The recipient cannot use these datasets to identify, contact, or target you as an individual.

Opt out: If you do not want your activity included in aggregate datasets that may be commercially licensed, you can opt out at any time in the ReelTok sidebar under Settings → Privacy → Data sharing. Opting out does not affect your ability to use the Service.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.

You can permanently delete all of your data at any time — including after your account has been closed — using the "Delete my account & data" button in the ReelTok sidebar settings. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. All account information, comments, votes, and reactions associated with your account are removed from our systems upon request.

Aggregate, anonymized statistics (e.g., total comment counts on a title) that cannot be linked back to you may be retained after account deletion.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

The Service is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@reeltok.io and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights (California Residents — CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

To exercise these rights, use the in-app tools described in Sections 5 and 6, or contact us at privacy@reeltok.io.

9. Data Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed password storage, and row-level access controls on our database. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy at this URL and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
